We all have certain candies that we think about on a regular basis. Why? Because while it's true that candies are not healthy, they there are lots of good thing about them. They are delicious. Secondly, they are terribly irresistible to buy. And frankly, candies and sweets just keep us from being down! But with the entire introduction, it will be nice to know where the first candy originated from...

Where it Came From

Candies were baroque during the olden days and are nothing like what we are used to seeing now. Also, chocolates have not been around until the mid-1800s. Candy in the Middle Ages was simply fruit or nuts covered in honey or something else that was really sweet. And in the past, candies were so expensive that not everybody was able to buy them. In contrast, nowadays, we are very lucky to be able to afford a wide range of candies that we may choose from and that may even be bought by the dozens! This is one of the things to really ponder about while eating candies! Back in the days, it would be unfathomable to see so much candies all in one place!

How Candies Improved

Candies have developed into how we know them today by riding the times. Some candies were innovated first before others went to do the same thing. Take the M&M's for example. These tiny chocolate candies that have the famous tag line 'melts in your mouth, not in your hands' have been made this way so that chocolate won't melt on a hot sunny day. They were actually created with the military in mind! (After all...with the island hopping campaigns, they probably weren't seeing very much snow!) In fact, only the military were able to eat these treats during the World War II.

Still Here!

Candies have also weathered decades and still are here with us today. This, of course, includes good old chocolate (which wasn't really sweet when it was first discovered. How it ended up being made into candy when it started as a spicy thick drink is a mystery!), and the candy corn. Also, some of the old candies that are forefathers knew are still available for our enjoyment today! No one ever thought they'd stand the test of time! So don't be surprised at what you might find out when you look for information about candies!

Finally...

Another interesting story is about the candy bar that had to be delivered right on your doorstep just like milk. That's right-that's how our friend the Heath bar started out! You will appreciate your candy bar more if you knew the history behind how and why it was made! (No pun intended, of course.) These are just a few fun facts and trivia about your candy. Who knows-maybe you can find out something you didn't know that definitely fascinates you... we can only hope! Finally, just enjoy eating your yummy, absolutely delicious candy! Maybe you'll even be able to pass your knowledge on! For those hoping for a healthier snack but still a little sweet, I highly recommend benefiting from wholesale dried fruits.
