All of the Levi's we see for sale today, including the Levis 513, were the brainchild of Levi Strauss, born in Bavaria in 1829. The name is synonymous with durability. By the time of the 1849 California gold rush, a brother-in-law established a dry goods company and within a year the name was known across America.
Originally these jeans were made of a canvas material known for its lasting quality. When canvas could no longer be found the family turned to Nimes, France for its thick woven fabric. Known as serge de Nimes, the name denim was born.
These pants began without belt loops and buttons were used so they could be worn with suspenders. Belt loops were added later and the buttons were eventually removed. Tears at the pockets was solved when the inventor of rivets contacted the family and offered to supply them if the family would purchase the patent. It was done and rivets became a common sight on denim pants.
The successes were to be intertwined with many hardships. There were times when it as felt they would not succeed. But through sheer willpower and company redesign, they met these challenges and carried on. Both J. C. Penney and Sears now carry the Levi brand.
Today there are styles to suit every size and build. Each has been given a number to designate the cut of the jean. Denims today can be coupled with a sport jacket and worn just about anywhere. Few places, including employment, are putting a stop to wearing jeans as long as they are not the extra casual versions that come looking like they were already worn.
As for the Levis 513, they are known for their slim fit. They have the traditional five pocket styling and sit a bit below the waist. They are available presently in only four colors. There is blue gray known as slate; a faded black called the champ; a deep blue gray referred to as rinsed neppy; and dark indigo tagged razor.
A cross between the 511 and the 514, Levis 513 seem to fit the bill. The 513 is not as loose as the 514, but neither is it as tight as the 511. Consumers really like the fit and are hoping it is produced in more colors. The Levi Company also sells clothing under the name of Signature, Dockers, and Denizen. A purchase with any of these names is a quality one.
