Singapore, one of Asia's most exciting metropolitan cities, is a popular stopover for travellers to and from Australia, and although this vivid city has a lot to offer to its visitors, many of them settle for a short visit of not more than 24 hours. This article will take you to five of the best sightseeing spots in Singapore, so you can get the most of your next visit here, even if it is only one day long. I warmly recommend you to start your day at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, so you can enjoy the early morning chil, before the weather becomes too hot and muggy, as it normally does in equatorial Singapore. This is one of the world's most beautiful botanic gardens and a "must see" for everyone who loves nature, plants and flowers... The gardens' "jewel in the crown" is, doubtlessly, the National Orchid Garden, where you can see the world's largest collection of tropical orchids, including some 2,000 hybrids...

Botanic Gardens MRT Station is about to open at the time of writing, which means that getting here from Orchard Road and the city centre is easier than it has ever been (although the station is tucked at the northern end of the gardens, far from most of the sightseeing spots, so you might still want to take the bus to Tanglin Gate and forget about the MRT) After visiting the botanic gardens we can continue our Singapore sightseeing tour and move to our next destination: The Asian Civilisations Museum.

Nestled within the imposing Neo-Palladian building of Empress Place, right beside the Singapore River, this excellent museum displays the cultures of Asia's tribes and nations, with emphasis on those groups that created Singapore. Exhibits are rich and fascinating and include ethnic costumes, traditional jewelries, ancient books, sculptures, religious artifacts, archaeological findings and relics, and what not...There are also free English guided tours of the museum every day, which are really recommended. Some of the city's most architecturally inspiring buildings can be found just within a stone's throw from the museum, including Singapore's old parliament, Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall and the Old Supreme Court Building...Take a minute's stroll to Raffles' Landing Site, where the founder of modern Singapore and his fellow Brits first set a foot on the island, cross historic Cavenagh Bridge and visit the aristocratic Fullerton Hotel before proceeding to the Merlion Fountain-Statue, which is one of the city's most recognized landmarks.

From here, you can take a short bumboat ride up the Singapore River and enjoy a nice riverside lunch at one of the alfresco cafs in Clarke Quay or Riverside point. Just before dusk, head to the Singapore Flyer - One of the top sightseeing spots in Singapore. The world's current largest Ferris wheel soars 165 M (550 ft) above the city and affords stunning views of Singapore and its environs, especially around twilight time, when the city's zillion lights light up like a colossal Christmas tree... From here we proceed to the high-tech looking Helix Bridge, which links this part of town with Marina Bay Sands and offers lovely views of the new city centre.

Singapore Zoo and Bird Park: Singapore is a great place to be for all nature lovers. The Zoo and the Jurong bird Park offer great excursion options for the tourists visiting the city. While the former is most visited for the animals that are housed in the open, the Jurong Bird Park is frequented for it houses a great selection of exotic birds and is one of the largest in the whole of Southeast Asia. These Singapore tourist attractions cover all aspects o sightseeing in the city and are indispensable components of the Singapore travel plan.
