There are several kinds of surgical instruments. Each kind of operation requires different kinds of instruments. Smaller instruments such as vannas scissors are required for smaller organs while larger ones are for bigger body parts.

Micro surgical tools are used in eye or ophthalmic surgical operations. Eye surgery is done to treat severe eye conditions that include cataract and glaucoma. Without this procedure, patients may go blind. Some of the ophthalmic surgeries are done to treat strabismus among children and those with astigmatism problems.

The human eye has a tiny opening. If operations are done without the use of any instrument, surgeons will have a difficulty navigating through the eyes. They require an eyelid speculum to stretch the eyelids. This tool is placed on the sides of the eyes.

Like most surgeries, there are blades and knives to be used. These surgical tools must be kept sterile as the eyes are connected to vital body organs such as the brain. Surgical knives and blades are smaller compared to the regular blades for surgery as these are done for the eyes.

Surgical sutures and needles are used in every kind of surgery. This is because these two will be utilized for to close surgical incisions. Sutures can either be nonabsorbable or absorbable. Needles can vary as well, depending on the kind of surgery done.

Forceps are surgical tools that look like shears. However, cutting is not what it is used for. This cannot cut as it only has blunt sides. It is utilized for picking other tools. It has a locking mechanism that prevents that held object from falling.

When the surgery is almost over, there are other instruments used aside from the vannas scissors. Wound dressing supplies and solutions are provided. Closing up incisions do not only require sutures. A roll of gauze is also needed to cover the wound.
