There is this guy who is really inclined in literature and music. His world goes around writing heart-felt poems and songs; his day-in-a-life isn't complete without creating a piece. In the future, he would like to see himself as a famous composer, singer, or a poet.

To achieve his dreams, he does all the important things to make: he joins national writing contests and occasionally, he makes an attempt to sell his songs to recording companies. He is sincere about his dream of becoming well-known for his compositions. Nonetheless, it seems that good fate is nowhere in sight for him, because nobody appreciates his works.

He soon started to think of quitting until one time, he heard a new song on the radio. The nice melody got his attention and thus he listened more attentively. He was surprised, for he knows the full lyrics of the song. He may not have heard the melody but regarding the words, he is certain that those are exactly the lyrics of one of his old songs!

Poor talented man, someone has probably stolen his intellectual property! What does he need to do?

Intellectual Property Defined

Every creative asset (artwork, literary piece, music etc) that is created by a certain individual by himself is called his intellectual property. The material is owned and must be completely controlled by its creator.

An Owner's Rights As Regards To His Intellectual Property

An intellectual property should be used only by the owner. He is likewise the sole person who can reproduce his own work. Only the authorized persons may use and reproduce the owner's work.

Furthermore, the owner can openly object to changes by other parties to his work. Any unpermitted action to his intellectual property should be given a certain penalty, as long as the owner wants to fight for his rights.

Solving The Problem As Regards To A Stolen Intellectual Property

Going back to the man's story, he has the right to investigate and file a case against the person who stole his song. What he should do first is to determine the possible suspects. The guy once tried to sell his compositions to a recording company and thus, the company representative and some other people involved in his attempt to sell his song may be accountable for what happened.

After determining the possible suspects, an investigation should be done. Once the result has come out and proved to be true, the guy may still have the choice to decide if he would still want to demand for deeper investigations or other courses of actions.

An intellectual property should be as important as a tangible asset like houses, cars, etc. The owner has done more than enough effort for it therefore, he should always do his thing to fight for his property.
