To get the best result out of husky training you really need to change the way you think about husky training. The first major principle in training your Husky is understanding that your Husky is waiting for leadership and will react to you. Although Huskies are very smart, it's wrong to presume that they are waiting to outsmart you. In fact huskies have a natural desire to belong and are waiting to conform so that the pack will accept them. Your huskies predatory instinct must not be interpreted as negative behavior.
Negative behaviors by your Husky are what you will probably want to address first. When conducting husky training it's best to adjust your huskies behavior within the huskies instinct and behavior. It is a big no no to flip out at your husky during training. Your husky will follow a strong leader but go up against against somebody who is a bully.
Foundation Husky Training [Tips|Information|Advice|Info|Hints}
There are a number of basic methods that a Husky owner should consider when starting to train their cute, but often mischievous fluffy friend. The methods outlined below will fast track husky training in most conditions.
Crate Training
Having a place to call home and a separate territory is what crate training will provide for your husky. Crate training is a applicable form or training and not a way to punish your husky. Initially when you are crate training your husky make sure you never leave your Husky on his own. Your husky will adapt better to crate training if you keep them calm when you first start with them. Spend as much time as possible with your husky during initial crate training session so that they adapt better. Crate training can present a good foundation for housing training, reducing barking and stopping anxiety type issues.
Leash Training
If you are coming up against a few obstacles when walking your dog on a leash, you should take a step back and make sure that your Husky is acting calmly before heading off for a walk. Don't rush your husky while you are waiting for them to get calm before walking. Once your Husky is calm, the likelihood of a good response to your commanded on your upcoming walk is greatly increased. If your husky has a leash probelm there is a high likelihood that they are unsure about what is fitting behavior. When your husky tugs or pulls on the leash to advance ahead of you, calmly sit your husky down beside you for a few seconds and then continue walking. Your husky will quickly associate the pausing with their pulling on the leash.
The Alpha Position
As you may well be aware, Huskies are working pack dogs legendary for their endurance while working in a team. Being in 'The Alpha Position' is the act of providing your husky with a strong leader and a sure base in the home environment. Make it your priority to be a good strong figure for your husky. Once they know you are the leader and will offer them protecting, your Husky will feel a lot more calm making learning and training a lot easier. Husky training is an ongoing exercise so the sooner you the start the better.
Obedience Training
I personally recommended taking your Husky to obedience training lessons or at the very least puppy school. You will be able to teach your Husky basic commands many too much problem but Huskies actually need social interaction. Professional dog training sessions are fantastic for you and your husky to learn about the alpha relationship. You may find that due to complacency by the owner your mature husky has developed some bad habits that need fixing through formal obedience training.
Husky Training Consistency
Staying consistent in your training and rules for your husky is the golden rule when it comes to husky training. A good example is making sure that boundaries around your home remain consistent for your husky. Dogs are smart to a degree, but they always respond best to a consistent environment where lessons are repeated in a firm but fair way. Sitting down before crossing the road is a good example of how positive habits will teach good behavior. A husky that has consistent training is only too willing to please their owner. Finally spread the consistency message to your entire household to help with your huskies training.
