Genuine Cavachon Breeders Are the Best People to Contact for Healthy Cavachon Puppies
- By: Jerri Eide
The Cavachon gets its name from the two parent breeds. These are the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. Genuine Cavachon breeders will be promoting this designer breed by ensuring their stud dogs are as healthy and genetically sound as possible.
Crossing two breeds can result in progeny inheriting any blend of good and bad characteristics from the parents. In this case, the cross seems to have been quite successful. Puppies may not necessarily be from two purebred parents. Multi-generation crossings are used to help 'fix' a particular attribute in the new breed so that it will appear consistently.
By mating the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise, breeders hoped to incorporate certain characteristics from each breed into the offspring. In this instance, the aim was to develop a non-shedding, hypo-allergenic dog. It needed to be on the small side and to have a gentle, even disposition.
The size depends largely on the height of the parents. Whether the hybrid is a first or second generation dog will also have an effect. They may be anything from 9 to 18 inches high. There is now a toy version available which is even smaller. Weight ranges from 12 to 25 pounds depending on sex.
New prospective owners should ask lots of questions about the health of the parents. Both breeds have some genetic conditions although the hybrid generally seems to be relatively free of problems. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is prone to mitral valve disease. This causes many deaths from congestive heart failure. It is an inheritable disease. The Bichon Frise suffers from several immune system diseases which can also be passed on.
Puppies come in many colors. The most common is probably peach and white. Solid colors and tri-colors all occur in these cute little dogs. Because of its long coat, it should be thoroughly brushed every few days and needs bathing about once a week. Although the Bichon Frise does not shed and is recommended for those with allergies, most Cavachons shed a little. If you think you might be allergic to dog hair and dander, you should spend some time with your potential pet before deciding to purchase it.
As both breeds have loving, kind temperaments, the hybrid also has these attributes and has increased in popularity. Demand for the Cavachon puppies is quite high. They are very friendly dogs and exist happily with children as well as with other dogs and pets. They cope well with quite a lot of attention and play from children. Their small size makes them a good dog for families. Cavachons are playful and quite intelligent. Training and socialization should take place early in their lives for best results. These are great little dogs provided you have time to take care of their grooming needs and that you go to reputable Cavachon breeders for your new companion.
